Facebook and Privacy

Something bad is going over Facebook! it might be the aftereffect of the ‘Cambridge-Gate’ scandal, but I think it is much more than that.

The strength of Facebook and maybe the main reason for its widespread is those 3 pillars which it is built on from day-one by the vision of its maker: Share, Transparent, Mutual contribution, and Creativity. Moreover, by sharing, transparency, and mutual contribution, Facebook gave a whole new meaning to the concept of Community.

It has also reached, in my opinion, the highest level of mutual-knowledge up to the level of common knowledge, a term taken from the game theory, which means the highest level of knowledge awareness in a group. i.e., I know that you know that I know that you know, etc.

Facebook is for the people and by the people and if people wouldn’t like the concepts it is built on, they wouldn’t make it so important in our daily life.

No one can suspect that I have any personal interests in Facebook whatsoever, but I would like to defend those concepts even if it has the cost of losing one’s privacy.

If you are looking for privacy don’t open an account. If you do decide to play the Facebook-game you should know the game rules and understand that sharing and contributing and being transparent is the opposite of keeping one’s privacy.

Returning to my initial argument, I think that the overall loss of privacy in the world as a whole and especially on the net, has made a huge privacy-protection-storm like a high wave taking everything in its way. One of the side effects is what happens to Facebook. First the embarrassment of its founder, he is apologizing for being who he is and for his creation, then the harsh change in many of the algorithms behind the nice FB page, the loss of Graphsearch, and nowadays the appearance of Chrome extensions like FB Unseen. Here again, if you don’t want to be seen, don’t play this game.

Finally, when it comes to CI and Webint, you must know that FB has been a Gold-Mine for us for many years. The new privacy protection wave stands a new challenge for Webint CI persons in gathering first-hand information.

And a final word, I know that some of the things I wrote can make others angry. sorry! but feel free to comment.
